Chapter 3: An Author’s Two Most Important Activities

Most authors’ definition of success will include some expectation of book sales. Let me get right to the point and state that the two most important factors that determine book sales are:

  • A great book
  • A functioning platform

We’ll get into the details of both in future posts, but here’s the reason I mention them now: If a great book and a functioning platform are the two most important factors of sales success, then the two most important activities of an Author are:

  • Writing
  • Building your platform

If you are considering whether or not you should undertake an activity related to your book, just ask yourself the question: Does this activity directly contribute to my writing or building my platform?
